Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE KOWALCHUK On July 8, 2003, after a brief struggle with cancer and with his family by his side, our husband and father peacefully went to heaven. George was born in Komarno on May 5, 1917 to Paraska (Kotyk) and John Kowalchuk. He was the youngest of six: brothers, Nick, Alex, Peter and Mike who predeceased him, and a sister Bella. He lived his entire life farming in Komarno except for a few years working in a gold mine in Pickle Crow, ON and the last seven years in Teulon. In 1940 he married Mary Baron and together they raised their family and enjoyed a wonderful life. George loved life and people, carpentry, fishing, bingo and scratch tickets and he absolutely loved playing cards. He had a soft heart, a great sense of humour and a keen mind which he displayed to the very end. Religion was very important to George and for many years he served priests and did maintenance work in their church. He is survived by Mary, who was his wife and soulmate for nearly 63 years; son Tom (wife Chris, children, Tom Jr. (Carmen), Marilena, Kristopher (Beth)) son Edward (wife Patty, children, Corey (Tammy), Kelsey (Lauren), Nancy) daughter Rosalie Shupenia (husband Mike, children, Curtis (Kathy and daughters, Kaitlyn and Larysa), Laura Platt (Corey and daughter Avery), Dennis (Rebbeccah) daughter Lucy (Terry). Also his sister Bella Buchkowski, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Teulon Hospital for their compassion and commitment. Prayers and funeral will both be held at the Holy Trinity Church in Komarno. Prayers will be held on Friday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m., Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Funeral will be on Saturday, July 12 at 10:00 a.m., Fr. Isador Dziadek officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Georges memory to the Komarno Holy Trinity Church or cemetery in care of Eileen Zinkowski, P.O. Box 193, Teulon, MB R0C 3B0. MacKenzie Funeral Home Teulon in care of arrangements.
