METRO R. DACIW It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Metro who passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on July 10, 2003 at the age of 81. Metro will be greatly missed by his wife Sonia of 56 years, his two sons, Bill (Dana), Barry (Jo-Ann) and his four grandchildren, Thomas, Corinne (Paul), Michael and Kevin. He is survived by his brother Fred (Anne) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Eva; two brothers, Michael and John; three sisters, Anna, Katherine and Mary. Metro was born on January 8, 1922 in Chatfield, MB. After attending Teulon Collegiate, he obtained a B.Sc. in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba. Upon graduation Metro worked for the Manitoba Department of Agriculture for 37 years, and after numerous positions retired as the Chief of Statistics in 1982. During his employment, he furthered his education by receiving his M.Sc. from the University of Nebraska in 1963, graduating Gamma Sigma Delta. Metro was an avid sportsman, especially if it was fishing or hunting. His other activities included curling, bowling, pool at the Legion, and baseball, where he was inducted into the Manitoba Hall of Fame in June 2003. Metro was a founding member of the Chatfield Old Timers Club and was involved with the executive for many years. The family wishes to thank the various medical personnel over the last two years who have helped and cared for him, namely those at St. Boniface Hospital, Misericordia Hospital and Meadowood Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. A celebration of Metros life will be held on Wednesday, July 16, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
