Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRAE KHAN May 28, 1944 - July 10, 2003 Quietly and peace-fully, Rae, aged 59 years, lost his battle with esophageal cancer on July 10, 2003. Rae put up a brave, strong and courageous fight against this devastating illness during his 15 months. His steadfast faith in God and unswerving courage gave him and his family the strength they needed to accept and cope with the difficult days associated with this illness. Rae is survived by his loving wife and soul-mate Hazra; children, Sabrina, Salisha (Nish), and Khay; his mother Sahefa; sister Yasmin (Faizal, Senead, Leela, and Cindy) in Trinidad; and many other family members and friends too numerous to acknowledge. Over the past months, Rae gained a lot of strength from the constant love, support, caring and concern from his family and friends both in Canada and overseas, so many that we are sorry we cannot mention you all. Rae came to Canada in 1968 and completed his B.Sc. and B.Ed. at the University of Manitoba. He had been a teacher for 33 years at St. Pauls Collegiate in Elie. As an educator, he inspired students to achieve their highest potential and gave generously of his time to those who required assistance. His colleagues benefited from his expertise and commitment and his dynamic motivation was a source of inspiration which promoted staff morale. As a sportsman, Rae was an avid fan of, and had a passion for, all sports. He was a founding member of Windians Sports Club (Captain/executive postions/top Fast Bowler) and Caritoba Golf Club (President/executive positions). He provided invaluable leadership and support in numerous organizations as well, including Forresters, West Indian Association, Caribbean Association, T&T Society, TMAM, and Manitoba Teachers Society. His genuineness and calm demeanour had a special impact in dealing with conflicts within these organizations. As a community man, Rae has made immeasurable and invaluable contributions. As a spiritual man, Rae was blessed with the opportunity to complete his pilgrimage to Mecca, thereby completing his five pillars of Islam. A man of honour, humour, impeccable honesty and unimpeachable integrity, Raes life is a personification of genuine goodness. He was a gentle man and a gentleman. Every person who has known Rae is a living legacy to the gift of love that is Rae Khan. Spending the last months of his life at Riverview was eased with the love, respect and wonderful care from all the doctors and fantastic, dedicated and loving staff. Thank you all very much for welcoming and accommodating us as well as for making Raes final journey a pain-free, comfortable and gentle one.
