BEN STONE Peacefully passed away on July 13, 2003 at the age of 86, left behind beloved wife Mary; sons, Norman (Rachelle), Victor (Debbie), Aaron and Leonard; grandchildren, Bryan (Alda), Faith-Ann and Steven; and great-grandchildren, Aaron and Mica. Our Dad was born in Krasnastaf, Poland. A "Shetelel" where tradition dictated ones future. He left home before the war broke out and travelled to Russia. That decision saved his life. Most of his immediate family perished in Poland. Throughout the war years it was Dads ingenuity, perseverance and strong will that kept him alive, while others around him succumbed to hunger. After the war he returned to Poland to find out the fate of his family. From Poland Dad chose to go to Berlin where Jewish refugees were being sent to North America to build new lives. It was there that he met his bride to be. With our mother and the remnants of her family they set off to the New World where opportunity reigned and the potential to achieve seemed limitless. In Winnipeg he built his dream life. Our father became a model for his children. Hardwork, perseverance and a love of family are the lasting legacy he leaves to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery.
