WILLIAM (BILL) YAKEL With his family by his side, Bill Yakel passed away at the Victoria Hospital on Friday, July 11, 2003. Bill was born in Winnipeg on May 3, 1924. He lived his 79 years in Elmwood. After graduating from Lord Selkirk High School he joined the R.C.A.F. While stationed in Trenton, ON, he proposed to the love of his life, Emma Kull, through the mail. After the war he went to work for Simons Manufacturing Ltd., retiring in 1987 as partner. Bill enjoyed many years at the family cottage at Barrier Bay. He was an excellent water skier and had an abundance of patience teaching others. He loved swimming, walking, building houses and vacations in Hawaii. Bill will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years, Emma, sons, Bill (Wanda), David (Janice) and Mark (Brenda) five grandchildren, Trevor, Tyson, Jeffrey, Breanne and Amanda; in-laws, Louis Rosen, Wilf Weir, Flo Yakel, Edith and Noel Murphy, Ellen and Bruce Bancroft and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Elizabeth Yakel; sisters, Emma Rosen, Kay Lenfesty, Min Bernhardt, Freda Lelliott, Betty Weir and brother Alex Yakel. Respecting his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
