PATRICK "LORNE" MAGNUSSON March 17, 1937 - July 14, 2003 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Lorne on Monday, July 14, 2003 at the age of 66 years, peacefully at home, with Margaret and Meagan at his side. Lorne was predeceased by his Father Johann in 1966, Mother Lillian in 1987, Infant sister Valerie-Ann in 1941, brothers Gerald in 1989 and Joey in 1998. Lorne is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Margaret and their five children, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Son Warren (Pam) - Ryan, daughter Elizabeth, Christopher Avery; Daughter Cheryl (Brian) - Melainee, daughter Darian, son Corbin, Aimee (Terry) son Chase, Cameron; Daughter Corrie - David (Elena), daughters Amber, Elizabeth, Alexis, Gordon; Daughter Colleen - Aaron (Jeanine), daughter Kelsey, Shane; Daughter Pamela (Paul) - Jasmine, Brooke and Baby. Papa will be missed by his precious granddaughter Meagan who he loved dearly. He also leaves his sister Cynthia Kyla (Julio) son Dustin, daughter Cristina and Baby, his sister Candy (Dan) Joevanna and Savannah of Ontario, his sister-in-law Marion and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorne was born on March 17, 1937 at his home in Mapleton, MB. Lorne attended Mapleton School and also attended Selkirk Collegiate Institute. After leaving school, Lorne and Margaret were married and he worked for Browns Bread driving trucks. They then started their family and he was soon hired at McGavins Toastmaster where he was again employed as a truck driver. This job took him to many different locations where he established a kinship with many storeowners across the Interlake. He drove the bread truck until he started his own business in 1970 when he opened his restaurant "Lornes Place Coffee Shop" which led to owning his Gondola Pizza franchise of 17 years. Owning Gondola Pizza led to many lifelong friends young and old. Lorne was a member of the Selkirk Kinsmen Club, which was a time in his life that he enjoyed immensely. Lorne was also famous for calling the Kinsmen Wednesday Night Bingo at the Memorial Hall in Selkirk where he got a big kick out of teasing the players while calling the numbers. Upon retirement, Lorne was employed at the St. Clements Churchyard where he kept and maintained the books and records for the cemetery for around 12 years. He was also volunteer Treasurer for "Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen" for about 4 years. He was happiest at home with his family and the little ones playing around. If there were no little ones around, you could bet that he would be out and about on his scooter, checking out whats new around town. He loved to attend all of the activities in Selkirk and you were able to see him at one event or the next and could depend on him to give you a smile if you didnt have one. He was well known for his great sense of humour and all that knew him will miss him. The family would like to extend their thanks to the health care staff for the many years of outstanding care given to our Dad. Special thanks to Dr. Fuchs and Dr. Nesbitt of the Selkirk General and the great Nurses there who gave him special attention. We would also like to especially thank his Nurse Sandy and his Home Care Worker Dianne Soke for all the kindness shown towards Dad. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at the St. Clements Church on Saturday, July 19 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Canon Godfrey Mawejje officiating. Interment to follow at the St. Clements Churchyard. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Ryan, Melainee, David, Aaron, Aimee, Gordie, Shane, Chris, Cam, Avery, Meagan, Jasmine, Brooke and Baby. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Heart and Stroke Foundation" in Dads memory. We hope you find what youve known in your heart is out there. For you, now is your time for catching up on knee-slapping laughs and good times with old friends and relatives. Youre Journey has just begun. Bye Dad, were going to miss you. Due to the size of the church, lawnchairs may be required. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
