EVAGELIA CALOGERIS Peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2003, in the presence of her beloved son John, daughter-in-law Cheryl and close family friend Clarence Reimer, our cherished mother passed to eternal life. Evagelia was born on August 19, 1924 in Psachna, Greece. She came to Canada in 1957. Living in Vancouver, BC with her brothers she worked in the textile industry and on flower farms. While in Vancouver, she met and married her late beloved husband Spiros (Nick) Calogeris. They had one son, John, whom she loved with all her heart. Eva was predeceased by her husband Spiros, her father, mother, sister Rina, brothers, Jim and Tom. Left to cherish her memory is her son John and wife Cheryl; brother Val (Sophie) nephews Gus (Diane) and John, their children as well as many close family friends. Eva was a member of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and the Ladies Philoptochos Society. The outdoors held a special place in her heart. Travelling to Banff on several occasions reminded her of her homeland, which brought to her heart the memories that she had of her life in Psachna, Greece. The mountains, the winding rivers, which flowed through them, the farmlands with all the cattle and animals roaming on and around them warmed her heart. In seeing all of nature made her return to the joys of her younger years, the pleasant times of life in Psachna, her friends and relatives. It renewed and restored her joy of life. Evagelia had in her hands the ability to produce beautiful results in her love of gardening, which brought to others much happiness and joy. She was gifted in the ability to produce fine works of petty point and needlepoint works, which gave her much joy. She would always welcome into her home friends and family with a loving heart. Everyone to her was a special person. She gave respect to people for who they were, not to who they were not. In the desire of her heart always putting others first and herself second as Christ did so with His disciples. She always had a great love and respect for the Church, which held a special place in her heart. We wish to express our thanks to the nurses and doctors of the 8th floor of St. Boniface Hospital. A very special thank you to close family friends Clarence Reimer, Rose and Vin Ablack and Rev. Tim Thiessen and Pastor Aubrey Krahn for their prayers and support over the last few months. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, with funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 17. Both services will be held at the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1255 Grant Ave., with interment following at Brookside Cemetery. The wisdom this woman possessed far exceeded her years. She imparted to us strength, insight, courage and common sense which gave us the ability to do the best we could do in life with what God gave us. Our dear Mother, we will love you and miss you forever.
