CAROLINE JULIANNA ARKLIE (nee HANDKAMER) 1915-2003 On July 14, 2003, with her family nearby, Mom was called home by her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Carole was the first child of Charles and Elizabeth Handkamer. She was predeceased by her parents; and three sisters, Mary, Anna and Elsie. Four siblings remain to cherish her memory, Chris (Anne), Paul (Madge), Charlie (Elizabeth) and Dorothy. As an oldest child, and being born in the early years of a tumultuous century, Caroles life was one of change and challenge. The premature death of three sisters, the Great Depression and the Second World War provided for trying times, but the family was closely knit and found strength in its Christian faith. Upon graduating from high school Mom became a seamstress whose skills as a consultant were sought out by the T. Eaton Co. A second clerical career at the Manitoba Textbook Bureau and at Garden City Collegiate, demonstrated her outstanding organizational skills and her personal pursuit of excellence. Carole was married to her beloved Mel in 1946 and they enjoyed 49 years together until his passing in 1995. They raised two children, Hugh Arklie and Sandie Hykaway. In addition to her children and siblings, Mom is survived by son-in-law Alan Hykaway; daughter-in-law Valerie Arklie; four grandchildren, David and Tim Hykaway and Heather and Andrew Arklie; as well as several nephews, nieces and cousins. Moms life was one of self-sacrifice, loyalty, goodness and love. Her life will be remembered and celebrated at her funeral on Friday, July 18, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Lukes Zion Lutheran Church. If you wish to honour Moms memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3C 4G2 or St. Lukes Zion Lutheran Church, 2903 McPhillips St., Winnipeg, R2P 0H3. I give our Lord praise and thanks for your precious life and support, and for the honour of being your sister and best friend. - Dorothy KLASSEN Funeral Chapel 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-0331
