ANTON (TONY) BLANK March 17, 1927 - July 14, 2003 It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Tony, loving father and grandfather, aged 76 years. He was born in Aptain, Yugoslavia and immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of three. His wife Rosemary in 1979; his father John in 1985 and his mother in 1989 predeceased him. Surviving are one son Kurt (Arlene), granddaughter Christine (Kevin Kramble), grandsons, Aaron (Angie Swan) and Anthony (Crystal King), all of Winnipeg; his brother Martin (Marlene) of BC and extended family and many friends from across Canada and the United States. Tony worked at McDonalds Aircraft during The Second World War riveting fuselages for the spitfire aircraft. He also worked at Avicate Printers, and for the Coca-Cola Company painting signs until he joined the Winnipeg Fire Department. He joined the department in 1953, was promoted to Lieutenant in 1977, and was promoted to Captain in 1981. He was well known for his cooking skills and was the preferred cook for his comrades at the various fire halls in Winnipeg that he worked during his rotations. He retired in 1985 at the rank of Captain fulfilling 31 years and eight months of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tonys memory to The FireFighters Burn Fund or The Canadian Diabetic Association. Funeral services and viewing will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., Winnipeg, MB. A private family interment will take place at a later date. "God isnt a printed book to be carried around by a man in fine clothes, nor a gold cross dangling at the watch chain of a priest. Gods spirit comes in as many ways as there is need for it coming and that is quite a few. God takes a hand wherever he can find it. He takes the hand of a doctor to relieve pain, the hand of a mother to guide a child. But they are all hands touched by His spirit, and His spirit is everywhere looking for hands to use." Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
