JOHN HAROLD (JACK) HARDWICK Peacefully on July 14, 2003 at the Selkirk General Hospital, after a brief illness, Jack passed away at the age of 71, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was a kind and generous man and will be missed by all that knew him. Jack enjoyed golfing, curling, horseshoes, darts, gardening, crossword puzzles, fishing, hunting, and socializing with his friends, family and "adopted family". He volunteered his time and labour to the Legion and Golf Course. Jack worked at the Manitoba Rolling Mills for over 43 years as a Melt Shop Supervisor. Jack was predeceased by the love of his life, Ruthie, his wife Helen Ruth; son John Darrell; parents, Walter John and Eva Mabel Hardwick; brothers, Bob and Bud Hardwick; sister Kay Mitchell; and brother-in-law Alvin Mitchell. He leaves surviving his daughter Joanne Aileen; sister-in-law Dolly Hardwick; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses and staff at CancerCare Manitoba. Special thanks to Drs. Ryckman and Demsas and Atonenko, Bev at the Chemo Unit and the staff at Selkirk General who looked after Jack in his remaining days. At Jacks request, there will be a private family graveside service. In keeping with Jacks wishes, friends and family may gather to celebrate Jacks life at the Legion between 2:00 and 4:00 on Thursday, July 17. People are encouraged to bring tales and stories of Jack to share. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Rm. 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
