IVAN JOHN JANZEN It is with great sorrow that the family of Ivan announces that on July 11, 2003 after a long, courageous battle with cancer, Ivan passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital to his reward in heaven. Ivan was born in Roland, MB. He spent most of his life in Winnipeg and was married there to Carolyn Veale. Ivan was employed by Agriculture Canada and was transferred to Brandon where they lived for 18 years. Ivan was transferred back to Winnipeg in 1986 returning as a meat inspector. He retired from Agriculture Canada in November, 1994 after thirty years of service. Ivan was a loving husband and father. He loved to travel with his wife and son. They took great pleasure in motoring and camping throughout Canada and the United States. Ivan was an avid photographer. He loved to take pictures of scenery and then develop them in his dark room. Ivan designed and built his own dark room in the family home. He was the Senior Photographer at family reunions. While living in Brandon, Ivan was a leader with the Wolf Cubs for three years, while his son, John was involved too. They both enjoyed Cub Camp etc. One of the saddest periods Ivan experienced in his life was in 1991 when his son John was killed in an industrial accident in Alberta. Ivans grief was intense. Another of Ivans hobbies was gardening and he taught his wife all she knows about vegetable gardening. He took pride in a beautiful yard with shrubs, trees and flowers. Ivan used fresh vegetables to make soups which he took delight in serving to guests. He often said he was glad his wife appreciated his willingness to do the cooking. Ivan was talented when it came to electrical, carpentry and mechanics. He was a strong, kind and gentle person always willing to give of his time and talent to others. Ivan leaves to cherish his memory, Carolyn his wife of nearly 40 years; his sisters, Ruby Smerchanski, Mae Welsh and Mabel Fischer; and sister-in-law Joyce Kissack all of Alberta. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son John; his parents; and brother Abe. Special thanks to Dr. Patricia Harris, Dr. George Hutfluss and Dr. Lorne Barber for their excellent care. Also, thanks to the caring staff at Grace Cancer Care and Palliative Care. Memorial service will be held on Friday, July 18, at 3:30 p.m. at Garry Memorial Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., with Rev. Erhard Buss, Immanuel Pentecostal Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ivans memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 109-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
