Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN EDWARD NORLEN 1904 - 2003 John Norlen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at the age of 99. He was predeceased by his wife Martta, his daughter Margaret, and son-in-law Wilbert Nordien. Left to celebrate his life are his granddaughter Janice Hamilton and her husband Larry; grandson John Nordien and his wife Arden; and his five great-grandchildren, Eric, Todd and Brett Hamilton, and Jesse and Thomas Nordien. John was born on January 18, 1904 in Torvalla, Jamtland in Sweden. As a young man he immigrated to Canada, settling in Winnipeg where he remained until his passing. During his early years in Canada, he worked hard to establish himself and eventually was able to form his own business, Norlen Painting & Decorating. John took great pride in his honesty and integrity, which became the foundation of his business as well as his personal life. John and Martta worked side by side together in both business and family matters for over 50 years, until her passing in 1988. In later years, John lived at Lions Place for a number of years where he immensely enjoyed the company of many good friends and neighbours. Johns family was his pride and joy. He took great interest in his extended family in Sweden as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was sharing his wisdom and advice right up until the end. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Cornish 5 at the Misericordia Health Centre and to the fourth floor staff at the Lions Manor Personal Care Centre for the loving care and concern shown to Grandpa over the last two years. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 17 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
