WALTER JAMES BIRD November 26, 1915 - July 16, 2003 Peacefully on July 16, 2003, Walter James Bird, of Peguis, MB, passed away at the age of 87 years. W.J. leaves to mourn, his sons, Clarence (Marilyn), Walt, Sig (Linda), and Jack (Sue) his daughters, Mary, Noreen (Ray), Irma (Eric), Geraldine, and Myra; brother Bill; sisters, Gladys and Winnie; also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. W.J. was predeceased by his father Tom Bird; his mother Bella Bird (nee Prince) brothers, Wilfred, William, Stanley, Allan, Carl, Percy, Cyril, and Clifford; daughter Dorothy Jean; and son Wayne. W.J. as he was known as, spent most of his life fishing on Lake Winnipeg, and on Great Slave Lake. When he retired from fishing in the late 1980s, W.J. travelled between Peguis and the Northwest Territories. He had a restless nature and was always planning his next trip to either place. W.J. was known for his great sense of humour and for teasing his friends. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a good story for anyone that would listen. W.J. will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and his infectious laughter. W.J. dearly loved the Northwest Territories and leaves many friends to mourn him. Wake services will be held on Thursday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. All services will be held at the Peguis Church, Peguis, MB, with Pastor Irvin Wilson officiating.
