WILLIAM (BILL) JOHN GEORGE BROOKS Our beloved Bill found peace on Monday, July 14, 2003 with his family at his side. Dad leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of nearly 50 years, Jean; his son David (Isabelle) his daughter Gwen Birse (Peter) and their children Scott and Brooke, who were his pride and joy. He also leaves his sisters and their families, Dorothy (Brian) of Spain, June (Fred), Margaret (John) and his brother David and his family, all of the United Kingdom. In Canada, Shirley and Neil MacKay and Margaret Hagglund and many nieces and nephews will miss him dearly. Bill was predeceased by his parents Agnes and William and his brother Ron. Grandad was born on March 18, 1933 in Llanbradach, Glamorgan, South Wales, excelling at both mathematics and track and field events in his school years. Bill had many stories about growing up in a Welsh mining town during the war years. After Grammar School, Dad worked for the Welsh Regional Hospital Board before joining the R.A.F. in 1951 where he trained as a navigator. While training with the R.A.F. in Winnipeg, he met his wife Jean on a blind date, and together they have had 50 wonderful years. After the R.A.F., he worked for five years with Federated Coop in Winnipeg. Bill worked very hard taking CPA accounting courses by correspondence and working full time to support his family. He achieved his CPA degree and later became a Chartered Accountant. In 1958 he joined Air Canada for a long and illustrious, dedicated career with the airline industry, which included a nine-year stint in Montreal. He retired in 1991 as Vice-President and Controller of Air Canada. He also shared his knowledge as a member of the board of Air Jamaica. Bill loved golfing and was a member of Breezy Bend and Charleswood Golf Courses. Bill took great pride in his children and grandchildrens activities and accomplishments. He tried to attend as many of their events as possible. Many, many thanks to Dr. J.R.A. Smart for all the excellent care and compassion Dad received. He was forever grateful. Thanks also to Charlotte, Dads favourite Welsh nurse. Our thanks to the Intensive Care Unit of the Grace Hospital, with special thanks to nurses Dawn and Rosalie, and to the Venerable Gordon Dixon, who all helped Bill, and the family, through his final day. Bills memorial service will be held on Friday, July 18 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Marys Anglican Church, 3830 Roblin Blvd. in Charleswood (near the Moray Street Bridge). The Venerable Gordon Dixon will be officiating. If friends so desire, donations in Bills memory may be made to a charity of their choice. DAD We think of you so often And always will with love. We think about how hard you worked And how much you did for your family. We remember things you have taught us And the times you have encouraged us. We see how your wisdom and caring Helped shape our lives. We look back on favourite memories that remind us how much we have always meant to each other and always will. There are so many times we think of you, Grandad And we feel proud and thankful and so very lucky. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
