THOMAS EUGENE WEBER P.Eng., F.C.S.C.E. March 29, 1923 - July 16, 2003 On Wednesday, July 16, 2003 Tom Weber passed away at Deer Lodge Centre. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Hilda (nee Caswell) son Bryan (Carol) of Winnipeg; daughters, Pamela Caswill (Bob) of Bedford, NS, and Wendy Cull (Mike) of The Pas, MB; and grandchildren, Rachel Weber, Andrew, Stephen and Christie Cull; and stepgrandchildren, Christopher and Melissa Caswill. Also left to mourn are his sister Shirley Mae Godbehere (Dick) and nieces, Diana (Don) Johnston and Donna Cronmiller. He was predeceased by his sister Wilda and her husband Len Cronmiller. Born in Portage la Prairie, only son of Norman and Gladys (Prout) Weber, Tom graduated high school receiving the Governor General Award and went on to University of Manitoba receiving his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering. After a brief time in the Canadian Army and a year with the Geological Exploration and Mine Development he joined the Province of Manitoba where he spent over 40 years in Water Resources Management, retiring March 31, 1988. Tom and Hilda met at the Province and were married on May 6, 1950. As with most of his life, water played a significant role with the 1950 Red River flood affecting travel to and attendance at the wedding. Tom had a distinguished career being made a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers. During his government service he was a Charter Member of the Prairie Provinces Water Board and served on the Red River Floodway Advisory Board, the Assiniboine River Advisory Board, the Sask-Nelson River Basin Study Board, the QuAppelle Basin Study Board and the Manitoba Water Commission. Under the auspices of the International Joint Commission he was a member of the Red River Pollution Board, the Roseau River Engineering Board and the International Garrison Diversion Unit Study Board. In addition he also sat on the Manitoba Conservation Districts Commission and the Manitoba Water Services Board. In his profession he was President of the Association of Professional Engineers of Manitoba, Chairman of the Engineering Institute of Canada, Chairman of the Water Resources Division of the Soil Conservation Society of America, member of the Canadian Institute of Public Administration and Chief Warden Camp 8 of the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer. Tom always found time for his church and community. In his youth he was active in Boys Jr. High Club at Trinity United in Portage. He was a Charter Member of Silver Heights United Church in St. James where he taught Sunday school and was an elder, the Clerk of Session for 25 years, elected as representative to Presbytery acting on many committees and he attended one General Council Conference as Silver Heights representative. Toms favourite pastime and hobby was his love of the family cottage at Delta, MB where he spent time with family and friends. The family also spent many summers travelling on camping trips in Canada and the United States. He loved to garden, swim, curl and for over 40 years was a Blue Bomber ticket holder. He was President of the Silver Heights Community Club, President of the Grain Exchange Curling Club and Councillor of the United Commercial Travellers. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Deer Lodge Centre T3, St. Norbert Personal Care Home and Grace General Hospital 3 South for their kindness during Toms lengthy illness. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 2T4 or the Alzheimer Society, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Funeral service to be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, July 21 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
