ERNEST PODJAN 1914 - 2003 Peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2003, Ernie passed away at the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. Survived by his wife of 59 years Betty; daughter Dorothy Drescher (Dick) son Jim; grandchildren, Marnie Lecuyer (Chris), Kimberly Rogers, James Drescher (Shannon) four great-grandchildren, Kaylene and Matthew, Justin and Taylor; and one brother Arthur. Ernie was predeceased by his father and mother, William and Caroline; and his step-mother Amelia; his sisters, Helen Campbell and Elsa Wersch and infant brothers, Theodore and Henry. Ernie worked with Burns Foods for 42 years with the exception of 4 years he was in the army during the Second World War. Following the war, Ernest and family settled in Rivercrest, MB. He was one of the founding members of the Rivercrest Community Club, and Rivercrest United Church. He spent eight years on the West St. Paul Council and was a member of the West Kildonan Legion. In 1968 Burns Foods transferred Ernie to their Brandon plant where he spent five years as Operations Manager. He was then transferred to Medicine Hat, AB., for three years and to Lethbridge, AB., for two years. Ernie retired from Burns Foods in 1979, returning to Winnipeg and family. He spent many happy summers at his cabin at Lac Lu, ON., and at home puttering in his green house/work shop. The family wish to thank the Middlechurch Home nurses and aids on B1 for their wonderful care, and previously Mary and Dean from Home Care. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to a charity of their choice. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
