PETER DOUGLAS SIDDALL On Sunday, July 20, 2003, in his 47th year, beloved husband of Evelyn and loved and loving father of Michael, Jessie and Carrie. In addition, he is survived by his parents, Eleanor and Bob; by his sister Linda MacComb (Hank) and family of Edmonton; by his brothers, Rob (Lorette Cenerini) and family and Jon (Lisa) of Winnipeg and Kevin (Kim) and family of Regina; by his mother-in-law Hilke Stam of Kingston and family; and by caring aunts, uncles and cousins. Peter was born and raised in Winnipeg, graduating from the University of Winnipeg in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After post graduate study in special education at the University of British Columbia, he returned to Manitoba in 1982 to embark upon his teaching career, initially at Fort Alexander, then at the Knowles School and latterly at Salisbury Morse Place. He was a wonderful teacher, respected by his peers and dedicated to ensuring that the young people who came under his influence achieved their full potential. To his students, he was a mentor and friend as well as a teacher. In 2002, he was nominated for a Lieutenant-Governor of Manitoba Classroom Teacher Award. Peter met Evelyn when both were young teachers living in Pine Falls and they were married in Kingston, ON in 1986. He was devoted to his family: he took great pride in Evelyn and the children and found great joy in his time with them. So too with his parents and siblings where the close associations of family remained intact throughout his adult years. Music was important to him. He particularly enjoyed singing in choral groups and some of his prized moments were when he was alone at his piano. He was great fun to be with as his many friends can attest. He was well read, thoughtful, incisive and conversations with him sparkled with wit and good humour. Modest and caring, he was always attentive to the needs of others. While open and welcoming, he was in many ways a private person, one who valued his independence. In his final illness, his determination never faltered: his courage remained undiminished. His life, while all too brief, was full and satisfying. He will be lovingly remembered, forever missed and never forgotten. The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the support and care provided by CancerCare Manitoba and Riverview Health Centre. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews River Heights United Church on Thursday, July 24, at 2:00 p.m., with The Rev. Dr. Terry Hidichuk officiating. Should friends wish, a gift in Peters memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
