GARETT LAURENT ROY Surrounded by his family, Garett, aged 24, passed away on July 23, 2003 at the Health Sciences Centre. Garett will be forever cherished and missed by his wife Darcie and their son Caiden; his parents, Rene and Monique; sister Shelley and friend Souradet; brother Danny; grandparents, Yves and Helene Chabot; father and mother-in-law, Walt and Terry McKee; sister-in-law Kathleen Wiebe, her husband and Garetts good friend Dustin, and their son Mason. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends are all saddened by his passing. Garett was born March 29, 1979 in Winnipeg, MB. He spent his childhood in Transcona and looked forward to spending each summer at Rock Lake. There, he enjoyed fishing, boating, water sports and being outdoors. The people and experiences at Rock Lake helped shape Garetts strong faith and instilled a passion for praising the Lord with his voice and guitar. Garett enjoyed playing basketball at College Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau, where he graduated in 1998. There, he met the love of his life and future wife, Darcie, whom he married in August of 1999. Garett pursued a career as a tradesman, working for Minic Drywall for the past six years. His fellow tradesmen knew him as a hard-working and dedicated man who took great pride in his workmanship. Garetts amazing ability to create is evident in the home he and Darcie purchased and lovingly and tirelessly renovated in 2001. The joy of their life, Caiden, was born April 16, 2002. Garett found pleasure in the simplicity of walking, playing and reading with Caiden. Caiden shares the warmth of Garetts smile, his curiosity and strength, and all those that care for Caiden will honour Garetts memory. Garett was an awesome husband and father who took immense pride in raising his son, instilling his values in the short time they had together. Garett loved and cherished his wife and family and his dedication to both remains unbroken. Over the course of the last year, Garetts sense of humour, genuine concern for others, and positive attitude drew many patients, doctors and nurses to him. They discovered the love that so many others have for Garett and became very attached to him. The families would like to thank the nurses, doctors, staff and fellow patients at CancerCare Manitoba, GD-6 and MICU for their exceeding compassion and support. In particular, the families would like to thank Dr. Morel Rubinger, whose professionalism, kindness and skill Garett trusted and respected immensely. The families would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the church family of Winnipeg Christian Centre and the many neighbours, friends and family for their prayers, friendship, meals and continued support. The many ways, too numerous to mention, that you supported us helped lift the burden of this past year and allowed us to concentrate on living, and enjoying our time together. Every gesture, from the smallest to the largest, helped strengthen our resolve and made every day that much easier to face. In lieu of flowers, donations in Garetts honour can be made to the Manitoba Bone Marrow Transplant Program at CancerCare Manitoba. A celebration of Garetts life will be held at North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch St., on Saturday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow immediately at Winnipeg Christian Centre, 230 Provencher Blvd. KLASSEN Funeral Chapel 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-0331
