GERALDINE MARY WILSON (SCOTT) Peacefully, on July 23, 2003, after a prolonged struggle with Alzheimers disease. Gerry was 85 years old, and predeceased by her brother Neil Scott in 1994. She is survived by her children: Jocelyne and Denis Patenaude, and their children Charles and Natasha; Timothy Wilson and Simone Sleeth, and their children Benjamin and Timothy, as well as Emily and Kristina; Jeremy Wilson and his children Ian and Jillian; Kit Wilson and Barbara Kowalski and their children Alina and Stephanie. She will be also be missed by her many friends and family, in particular the Scotts. Gerry was born in London, England, but spent nearly her whole life in Winnipeg. As a young girl she attended Grosvenor School and then Rupertsland School (now known as Balmoral Hall). She had a lifelong interest in reading and music, particularly piano, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She loved jazz and classical music, and was constantly requested to play the piano at parties. Mom dedicated much of her life to a variety of volunteer activities. She was an active member of many Winnipeg organizations, including the Junior League of Winnipeg, St. Georges Anglican Church and the Winnipeg Symphony. In 1965 she was asked to join and chaired the Building Committee for the Centennial Concert Hall complex in downtown Winnipeg. She was married to Ian Lovell Wilson in 1941. They were divorced in 1970 and she moved to Chicago, IL, where she lived for 10 years with Stanley Hallett and his family Mark, Michele and James. In 1981, at the age of 63, she moved back to Winnipeg and joined the Salvation Army as a fundraiser. She subsequently worked for the United Way of Winnipeg in a similar capacity. Later she was hired by the Winnipeg Art Gallery as the Director of Development, a position she held until 1993. Gerry was a mentor and powerful influence on many who were fortunate to know her. She was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 1998 and spent her last years at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, where she was known for her spunk and strong will. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care and support that facility staff extended to Gerry and her family during her illness. Funeral arrangements are by Thomson Funeral Chapels. A service will be held Monday, July 28, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Georges Anglican Church, Grosvenor and Wilton, Winnipeg. Bequests in lieu of flowers may be made to a charity of your choice.
