HELEN SEMENCHUK Peacefully on July 24, 2003, Helen Semenchuk, beloved wife of the late William, passed away at the age of 83 at The Health Sciences Centre. Helen leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Beatrice (Walter) Zulak and Cecilia (Jim) Duff. Three grandchildren, David and Melissa Zulak, and Caitlin Duff. Four sisters, Mary (Walter) Danko, Blanche (Sam) Donachuk, Angela Bunio and Pauline Banash. One brother, Casimer (Mary) Petaski; two sisters-in-law, Frances Petaski, and Margaret Petaski. Nephews, Andrew Semenchuk and Bill Semenchuk (Lisa and Michael) and many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her husband, William in 1987; an infant daughter Patricia in 1943; her parents, Ludwig and Pauline Petaski; sisters, Anne Onhaiser, and Rose Bochen; brothers, Joe and Mike; brother-in-law, Michael and his wife Helen. Helen was born March 2, 1920 in Lockport, the fifth of ten children. In 1939 she married William. From that date forward Helen dedicated her life to her family. Their needs seemed to always take priority over her own. Together Bill and Helen farmed and market gardened in Lockport. In 1994 Helen moved to Winnipeg and enjoyed the many friendships she made in her "new" home". Helen was a pioneer and dedicated member of The Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gonor. Together with Dad, they worked lovingly and unselfishly for the church. Moms strong faith in God sustained her through lifes hardships. Helen took great pleasure in knitting, cross-stitching, baking and gardening. She had a kind and generous heart, always sharing and helping her family and friends. Helens greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren with whom she spent so much time. As a Mother, she was always there for her daughters. She enhanced our lives with her love, deep faith, and hard work. Rest in Peace Vichnaya Pamyat Your life was love and labour Your love for your family true No length of time can dim the past We shall always love and remember you God saw your weary face And put His arms around you In His embrace lifted you to heaven A quiet peaceful place He knew the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb So He closed your tired eyelids And whispered "Peace be thine" It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone For part of us went with you The day God called you home. Pallbearers are grandson, David Zulak and nephews, Andrew Semenchuk, Bill Semenchuk, Ron Petaski, Ron Bochen, Dennis Banash and Darwin Donachuk. Prayers will be said on Sunday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated Monday, July 28, 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 6297 Henderson Highway with Father Walter Klimchuk officiating. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Helens memory to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Box 36, Group 360, R.R. No. 3, Winnipeg R3C 2E7.
