Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN MICHAEL (MIKE) GILHOOLY John Michael (Mike) Gilhooly passed away at home peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at the age of 65 years. Predeceased by his parents, Jack and Betty Gilhooly and sister Diane; Michael is survived by his beloved wife Patricia; son Gregory (Oakville, ON) and his wife Mary Anne Bueschkens and their son Nicholas; daughter Dawn (Hamilton, ON) and her husband Chris Pirsias; son Douglas (Oakville, ON) and his wife Louise Kelly and their children Michael, Meghan and Brendan; mother-in-law Evelyn McGillivray (Regina, SK) sister-in-law Diane Ollmann (Toronto, ON), brother-in-law Morley McGillivray (Vancouver, BC) and their families; and many close friends. Michael was born and raised in Regina where he attended Connaught Public and Balfour Technical schools. He was an avid hockey player and fan; playing for a number of years within the Pat Organization. In 1956, he joined Northern Electric (Nedco) where he worked for the next 43 years. In 1962, Michael and Pat moved to Winnipeg where they raised their family and lived for over 32 years prior to moving back to Regina in 1994. Michael was a sports enthusiast and dedicated much of his life to volunteerism. He had a passion for hockey, golf and curling. While residing in Winnipeg, he was a member of the Assiniboine Curling Club and Bel Acres Golf and Country Club where he thoroughly enjoyed himself and developed many close friendships. He coached hockey for many years at the Heritage Community Club and later became manager of the Portage Terriers. He served on the executive of the St. James Canadians Junior Hockey Club, Manitoba Junior Hockey League and Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association. Michael was a wonderful husband, father and friend. His family and the many good friends he met throughout his life were very important to him. He was a gentle man with a heart of gold. His genuine consideration and thoughtfulness towards others continued throughout his courageous battle with cancer. The world has lost a fine spirit and brave man. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Casey, Dr. Gorman, Dr. Yaqoob and the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, Dr. Clein and all the compassionate caregivers at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit and Home Care Services... your kindness and support during this difficult time has been greatly appreciated. When you think of me, smile! Ill be smiling then too. And Ill smile All the while When Im thinking of you. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Ave. E., Regina, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michaels memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit 3A, Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Ave., Regina, SK S4T 1A5.
