ROSS MAGIS September 22, 1914 - July 16, 2003 Sadly on July 16, 2003, Ross Magis passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 88. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Alexander and Anastasia, sisters, Olie and Stella; brothers, Walter and Morris; niece Sharon and his dear wife Stella. Ross was born and raised in Ethelbert, MB on September 22, 1914. Growing up he helped in the family General Store, worked on farms, fought forest fires and rode the rails looking for work during The Depression. He served his country overseas with the Midland & Sutherland Regiment during World War II. He lived in Toronto for 50 years where he worked as a machinist. There in 1984 at the age of 70 he married his true love Stella Karpiak. They returned back to Ethelbert in the early 1990s to live in the family homestead. Sadly Stella passed away in 1996. Ross resided in Ethelbert a short while. Due to failing health he moved permanently to Winnipeg to live with his niece Bev Magis who cared for him for several years until his passing. Ross was a kind, honest, God loving, hard working man who loved animals, enjoyed laughter, loved to plant and grow flowers, enjoyed singing in the church choir and was a loving and devoted son, husband and uncle. He will be sadly missed, especially by his niece Bev and Tuula. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the following for their kind and compassionate care, Dr. Ashvin Shah, Dr. Rodney Kellen, Dr. R. Guzman and Winnipeg Fire Paramedics. To St. Boniface Hospital, and a special thank you to the staff in Emergency, Pastoral Care and especially all the nurses and staff on the 6th floor Family Medicine. A special Thank you to the "Family of Friends" who helped Ross in Ethelbert and in Winnipeg. As per Ross wishes cremation and a private memorial mass have already taken place. Mass was celebrated on July 22, 2003 at St. Benedicts Monastery with Fr. Makowski officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Boniface Hospital Foundation or Quagga Stray-Cat Rescue. P.O. Box 552 Winnipeg, MB R3C 2J3 Rest in Peace Uncle Ross for you are now without pain and re-united with your loving family and God.
