WINNIFRED WATSON March 17, 1913 - July 24, 2003 On July 24, 2003, Winnifred Watson passed away peacefully in her sleep at her residence, Lions Manor Personal Care Centre. Winnie was born in Winnipeg, the seventh child of Arthur and Ann Watson. She grew up in Elmwood, and went to school there. Winnie worked at Eatons downtown store for forty years as a salesclerk and a department buyer, retiring in 1977. During the Second World War, Winnie served in the RCAF, then returned to her position at Eatons. Besides her parents, Winnie was predeceased by her seven brothers and sisters, Gordon, Agnes, Bill, Alice (Alex) Cross, Elsie, Hec, and Ken (Kay). She is survived by a sister-in-law Katie Watson; her nephew Alex (Betty) Cross; and three nieces, Ann (Walter) Hilash, Heather Peters, and Joan Stefin, and their families. Auntie Winnie enjoyed gardening, cooking, and family get-togethers. She was a most loving and devoted sister and aunt and was always known for her generosity. Auntie Winnie loved to travel and she enjoyed many holidays with her sister Elsie and with other family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. Flowers are gratefully declined. Winnies later years were spent in the loving care of the staff at Lions Manor, both in Rimmer House and in the Personal Care Centre. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to Lions Manor Personal Care Centre, 320 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6 or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
