ALAINA EVENSON It is with such sadness that the family of Alaina Evenson announce her passing. At 18 years old, still a sweet and delicate young girl who was on the brink of becoming a magnificent young woman. Alaina was born on August 29, 1984. She graduated from College Pierre Elliott Trudeau in June 2002, entering the University of Manitoba the following fall to continue her education. A promising and bright future lay ahead of her, as she gained recognition for Academic Achievement when she earned a place on the Honours List after completing her first year. Alaina was preparing for the fall curriculum and had dreams of becoming a dentist. Alaina shared a special bond with her sister Vanessa, enjoying many activities and evenings together. Alaina was an exceptional role model to her younger sibling. She had a special fondness for cats and was always ready to help with donations on their behalf to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Alaina would often surprise and delight her family with her compassion, welcoming stray neighbourhood kitties into her home. She was especially fond of her beloved pet Rueben and referred to their relationship as being "a team". Alaina had taken up guitar as a hobby and it was becoming obvious that she had a unique talent. She enjoyed playing songs in the evening for Vanessa and Rueben. Alaina experienced so much joy in the company of her many friends and was loved by them all. Left to cherish her memory are her mother Karen Schmidt; sister Vanessa; stepfather Richard; grandparents, Rodney and Wanda Evenson; grandma Bev; uncle Dion Evenson; uncles, Kurt (Dolly), Kevin, Grant (Daphne), Kris (Jennifer) as well as numerous cousins and close friends. Alaina is reunited with her father, Blake Evenson, who died in 1984, as well as her uncle Trent and cousin Michael. Grandpa Art Schmidt, great-grandpa Si and great-granny Gertie Evenson also welcome Alaina. A celebration of Alainas life will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. 1 East at Navin Road. The service will conclude at the chapel. Donations in Alainas memory can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematorium Hwy. 1 E. at Navin Road, 222-3241
