Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELERT GORDON STEVENS November 12, 1921- July 25, 2003 Peacefully, with his family at his side, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, Afi and great-Afi. Left to cherish his precious memory are his loving wife Anna; his children, Judy (Jack Bolter), Heather (Jim Sawers), Glen (Susan), Sharon (Ted Bos), Deanne (Ken Jones) grandchildren, Cameron (Julie), Sean, Kelsey, Kimberley (Rick), Carley, Jeffery, Kayla, Kevin, Ainsley, Jordan, Dustin, Dillon, Garrett, Hailey; and great-grandchild Kaden. He is also survived by his brother Walter (Betty) and sister Esther (Gudni) his many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his loving parents Jon and Raenka; and brothers, Bill, Lawrence, Franklin; and sisters, Ruby, Violet, Flora, and their spouses. Elert grew up on the family farm in Minerva. He worked as a fisherman and for Armstrong Fisheries. He was employed for 30 years at Gimli Air Force Base (maintenance and construction) and then 15 years at Gimli Betel Home. Dad was a kind, honest, hard-working, meticulous man and was always known for his generosity and great sense of humour. Many hours of volunteer work were put into the construction of the old curling rink, skating rink and Gimli Lutheran Church. He would always lend a helping hand when needed. Dad devoted his life to his family and grandchildren. His happiest times were spent at his cottage with family and friends. He started many family traditions which we cherish and will continue. A special thank-you to the staff at Gimli Hospital. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Elert will be held on Wednesday, July 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor George Johnson officiating. A private family interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gimli Health Centre Fund, Box 1710, Gimli, R0C 1B0, or Gimli Lutheran Church, Box 118, Gimli, R0C 1B0. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
