ROBERT JAMES HUNTER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert James Hunter on July 26, 2003 after a determined battle with cancer. Bobby will be greatly missed by his wife Edna; his sons, Kieran (Allison) and Perry; grand-children, Kristjan, Ian, Rachel and Joshua; his sister Margaret Clarke (Rab) brother Brian (Ann) brother-in-law Perry Harron (Jeannie) his extended family and many friends in Winnipeg, Toronto and in Northern Ireland. Bobby was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on August 25, 1936. He immigrated to Winnipeg with his family in July 1973, and took up Canadian citizenship within a few years of arrival. He worked at Canadian National Railroad as a machinist until his retirement. As with many recent arrivals from Ireland, Bobby joined the Winnipeg Irish Association and served a term as President during those years of membership. It was through the Irish club that Bobby met many of his friends and it was there that he got the chance to express his very musical nature through the Irish Tavern Singers, where he sang and played the penny whistle. This gave him the opportunity to perform and to travel to such places as Bermuda, and to music festivals all over North America. Dad was an avid golfer, an unbeatable trivia buff, a crossword aficionado, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and with his numerous friends. He also loved travelling with Edna, spending time at the lake, and since their retirements, visiting Texas and Mexico. The family would like to thank the Cancer Care Staff at St. Boniface Hospital and the Palliative Care staff of Riverview Health Centre for the wonderful treatment Dad was given over the past few months. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 29 at 1:30 p.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church at 209 Yale Ave. W. with a reception to follow at the Transcona Legion. In lieu of flowers people wishing to make a donation in Bobbys memory may give to the Riverview Health Centre or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
