Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID THOMAS LANE March 13, 1941 - July 27, 2003 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Thomas Lane while surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He met this challenge like all others with strength, humour and never ending optimism. Dave will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Ev, daughter Bev (Darwin) Maslow, son Greg (Krista) Lane and son David Lane Jr. Also grandsons, Justin and Jeffrey Maslow; brother Jim (Lil) Lane of Calgary AB; mother-in-law Irene Vermeulen; sister-in-law Carol Anne (Jon) Mikkelsen of MacKenzie, BC; as well as his nieces, nephews and his many special friends. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Ena Lane; his father-in-law Connie Vermeulen; and his brother-in-law Fred Vermeulen. Dave was very active for many years at the Fort Richmond Community Centre where he was Hockey Manager and then President of the club. He was also a member of the Richmond Kings Old Timers Hockey Team, often being teased about tripping over the blue lines. Dave could be found most Fridays for lunch at the Norwood with his lunch buddies. In recent years, Dave spent much of his spare time building remote controlled model airplanes and then crashing them with his friends at Big Sky Flying Club. He also volunteered at CancerCare Manitoba as a member of the accreditation committee as well as being a patient advocate helping bone marrow transplant patients and their families prepare for their procedure. His friends affectionately knew Dave as "The Grumpy Old Fart". Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 31 at 11:00 a.m. in Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr., with Rev. Fr. Carl Tarnopolski presiding. Special thanks go to the nurses, doctors and staff at CancerCare Manitoba, HSC GD6 and MICU for their outstanding care and compassion. We would also like to thank the many individuals who took the time to donate blood and platelets to the Canadian Blood Services. The family is profoundly grateful to Dr. Morel Rubinger for his tireless efforts over the last five years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Daves memory for the Manitoba Bone Marrow Transplant Program to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., Rm.
