EARL PRESTON SIMMONDS On Monday, July 7, 2003, seven months after being diagnosed with cancer, Earl passed away at home in Lumby, BC. Earl was born in Glenwood, MB on June 17, 1926. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at 17 to serve overseas during the Second World War. He left the force after 15 years of service (1943-58). He married Isabelle and they moved to Thompson, MB in 1962 where they raised their family (David, George, Lee, Karen, Earl and Tim). Earl owned and operated the Texaco Bulk Station in Thompson for many years. He was involved in many community organizations (Elks, Kinsmen, Lions, Rotary, Masons, and the Royal Canadian Legion) and served as Alderman and City Councillor. Isabelle died suddenly in 1983. Earl met and married Gayle in 1986 and they retired to Lumby. Earl was predeceased by his wife Isabelle; his sister Edna (Starchuk) his brothers, Les and Ken, and his son-in-law Ron (Melnichuk). Earl will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gayle; her children, their spouses and their children and by his children, their spouses and their children; David and Darlene (Sean and Sharon), George and Marlene (Wesley), Natalie Melnichuk (Larissa and R-Jay), Karen and Sylvain Amyotte (Randy, Ethan, and Averi), Earl, and Timothy and Alma (Jessika). Cremation has taken place. A service will be held at St. James Anglican Church in Thompson on Friday, August 1 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion following the interment.
