RONALD JOHN SPOONER (RON) (GRUMPS) It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the death of Ron. He passed away peacefully and with dignity on Sunday, July 27, 2003 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 80 years. Leaving to cherish his memory is his loving wife and constant companion, Doreen, after nearly 50 years of marriage. He will be sadly missed by his two daughters and their families, Janice Mallon (Bruce) and grandchildren, Lindsay and Kyle; Elaine McIntyre (John) and granddaughters, Meaghan, Kelsey and Mallory. Ron also leaves Doreens sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Gordon Chew, who retired in Winnipeg from England in 1993 to be with Ron and Doreen. Ron was predeceased by and is also survived by a number of brothers and sisters in England and Australia. His friends in Winnipeg and at the lake will sorely miss Ron. Ron was born in Doncaster, England on October 13, 1922 as one of 12 children. He spent his early years in England and served with the British Army at the end of the Second World War and in the Korean War. After Korea, Ron returned to England and met the love of his life, Doreen. They were married in March 1954 and were overjoyed with the birth of Janice two years later. Ron always sought better for his family and immigrated to Canada in 1957, where their life was built in Winnipeg and included the arrival of Elaine in 1961. He was employed at Standard Aero Limited for 30 years, proudly retiring in October 1987 to spend a wonderful period of life with Doreen. Golfing and living near Gimli in the summer months was followed by their grandchildrens school and sports activities during the winters. Many family trips to England, the west coast of Canada and the US - especially Grand Forks, provided many memories for Ron. Family was important and precious to Ron. He was always available for advice, help or to lend an ear. His other passions were golf, gardening, reading, difficult crossword puzzles and fixing anything he could. Ron knew a little about a lot, which made him a joy to converse with. Our family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface who helped Ron over the past 10 weeks. Special thanks to Dr. Nourandes, Carmen and Denise on E4, who were our angels on earth during Rons final day. The years of care and inspiration provided by Dr. G. Kalansky and Rons specialist and friend Dr. P. Griffin left Ron with his wit, his humility and his sharp mind to the end. As per Rons wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted by the Cardiovascular Centre of Excellence at the St. Boniface General Hospital at 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6. Ron, Dad and Grumps (as he was affectionately called by each of his grandchildren, family members and many close friends), we will so dearly miss your smile, your jokes, your guidance and strength, but most of all your love. Your memories will always be cherished. Rest Peacefully And may you forever play better than par WOJCIKS ALL BELIEFS & FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
