Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN CHRISTIAN DIXON November 16, 1917- July 31, 2003 Jack Dixon passed away after a mercifully short illness while at the Selkirk General Hospital. Jack was predeceased by his loving and beloved wife of 46 years, Iris Fern Dixon and his brother Lawrence. He leaves to mourn his passing two sons, Chris and Rod (Debbie), and grandson Tyson Dixon. A native Winnipegger, Jack was first employed by the Hudsons Bay Company up north working with the Inuit and Aboriginal natives as a fur trader until joining the navy during the Second World War. Jack participated in convoy protection and harbour inspection of foreign ships. Jack saw a lot of action and was traumatized for a long period after the war. Jack met Iris (nee Marr) and married in May of 1947. Always a lover of the outdoors, he operated a fur trapping concession at Reedy Lake, MB until 1956, when he returned to city life. Jack worked as a sheet metal fabricator until retirement in the early 1980s. Jack enjoyed his retirement by cottaging at Lac du Bonnet, writing articles for outdoor magazines and hand carving wood. Jack was a long time supporter of Ducks Unlimited, the Winnipeg Revolver and Pistol Association, volunteered at the Pan Am Games, and grew a large garden of vegetables for the Agape Table. The family wishes to give special thanks to all the staff at Selkirk Hospital for their excellent care of our Dad. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the United Church, Clandeboye, MB on Tuesday, August 5 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities (SMD), 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg.
