HERMANN HOOGE Unexpectedly, Hermann passed away at home on July 10, 2003 at the age of 65. He leaves to mourn his sisters, Klara and husband Gunter Weirich, Adina and husband Walter Zahn, Marlene and husband Ed Hurta, all of Winnipeg; Anne and husband Harry Voigt of Morris, MB; brother Peter and wife Martine of Germany; nephews, Andreas Weirich and family of Ottawa, ON, Martin Weirich and family of Winnipeg, Michael Zahn of Montreal, PQ, David Hurta and wife Krista of Grande Prairie, AB; nieces, Dorothy Zahn of Vancouver, BC and Laurence Hooge of France; cousins, Marla Wiese and family of Germany, Anita Hindemith and family of Winnipeg, Otto Klassen and family of Fishkill, NY; and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Heinrich and Helene Hooge and brother Andreas. Hermann was born and grew up in Germany and in 1954 immigrated to Canada. He attended Daniel McIntyre High School and the University of Manitoba. In 1968 he graduated with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees and in 1975 with a Bachelor of Education degree. To support himself during school he worked evenings and weekends and to finance his university studies he worked in the mines in Thompson, MB and Baker Lake, ON. After receiving his Teachers Certificate, he taught at several high schools in Manitoba. Because of illness, his teaching career ended in 1982. He enjoyed music, especially classical, reading, hunting and fixing things. He will be lovingly remembered for his kindness, generosity, helpfulness and his sense of humour. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 5 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut St., Winnipeg with Pastor Helmo Bachmeyer officiating. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
