HELEN (ELLA) MATTERN (nee SUTHERLAND) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Ella Mattern. Peacefully with family by her side, Mom passed away, Saturday, August 2 at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 80 years. Left to cherish her memory are Judy (Don), Bill (Tammy), Brad (Karen), Rick (Donna), Russell (Val) her grandchildren, Sean, Tracy (Blaine), Neil (Beth), Amanda (Lenny), Jeanette, Chris, Trina, Andrew and Matthew; her great-grandchildren, Shelby, Hayden, Baileigh, and Meadow; her sisters, Bunty (Adolphe) and Edna, as well as nieces and nephews. Ella was predeceased by her husband Theodore (Ted). Ella was born in Newtonmore Scotland and immigrated to Canada at a young age with her family. She enjoyed employment with the Orchid Florist. Some of her pleasures in life were camping, gardening, cooking and time spent with family and friends. In retirement years Ella and Ted spent memorable winter vacations in The Bahamas and Mexico. She also enjoyed a trip to Scotland with her sisters. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. The family wishes to thank her homecare workers, the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital and the staff at Deer Lodge Centre. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, August 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
