FRANK MEDER Frank passed away peacefully at his home on July 30, 2003. Frank was predeceased by his wife Blanche (nee Bouchard) and is survived by his children, Geraldine Weigle, Bobbie (Bruce) Docking, David (Cathy) Meder, Ross (Grace) Meder and Eric (Tuula) Meder; grandchildren, Staci (Scott) Weigle, Leanne (Andrew) Docking, Stephen Docking and Matthew (Heidi) Meder. Frank was born April 5, 1926 in Winnipeg and was raised in the north end. He was true to his roots and always bought his perogies and kolbassa there. After high school and brief jobs with Trans Canada Airlines and McDonald Aircraft, where he met Blanche, Frank joined the Navy and served on a minesweeper in the north Atlantic. After the war, he married Blanche in 1945 at the age of 18. In 1950 they moved with their two young girls to a new house in St. Boniface where he and Blanche raised their five children. He took great pride in his house and never lived elsewhere. Frank joined the C.N.R. in 1945 where he was a locomotive engineer until he reluctantly retired at age 65. He loved the job, the road trips and especially the camaraderie. Frank was a swimmer and a regular at the Bonivital pool where he made good friends. He enjoyed classical music and old cars. He kept his "new" Park Avenue safely in his garage and drove his rusted Buick. He and Blanche shared an interest in photography. They also kept a garden near St. Amant. For Frank, the garden was to please his wife but he kept it in her honour when she died and grew to love it. He took great pleasure in giving his harvest away and socializing with his garden buddies. Franks sense of humour was one of his most endearing qualities. He loved to entertain with an endless supply of jokes and stories and always drew great laughs. Frank had a special place in his heart for animals. He always had more than one pet in the house and was a devoted caregiver to all of them. Frank had a special relationship with each member of his family. He was the best father you could ask for. He was a wonderful grandfather and a great friend. He was truly a beloved man and we feel lucky to have had him in our lives. Cremation has taken place. If friends so wish, donations can be made in Franks memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society. A private service has already been held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel.
