Born Aileen Ella Davies on December 31, 1913, Ella was predeceased by her beloved mother and father, Catherine and Daniel Roger Davies, and her devoted brother, Stanley G. Davies of California. She joined the staff of Winnipeg Hydro in June 1930, starting in the Meter Department, eventually spending most of her career in the Winnipeg Hydro Showrooms on Portage Avenue as a bookkeeper. She retired from Customer Accounts in 1976. Ella embodied an intriguing blend of sophistication, graciousness, intelligence, kindness, wit, loyalty, devotedness, enthusiasm and a strong will. She was one classy lady. She cultivated friendships through her active memberships in the business women service clubs Zonta International and Aurora Club, serving on the boards. She was an avid and gifted bridge player throughout her life, a skill which resulted in lifetime friendships. Ella had a charitable bent, and spent 25 years as a volunteer accountant for the Craft Guild. Annually, she canvassed her apartment residents at Park West for the United Way. Her active membership in the Charleswood Golf Club since 1955 brought her much satisfaction and once again a cartful of treasured friends. She was still golfing three times a week at age 86. She was a sports enthusiast and devoted TV fan to the Blue Bombers and weekend golf. Ella travelled the world, many trips taken with her brother Stan and his family. She went to England, Wales, Maui, Portugal, Denmark, Hawaii and throughout mainland U.S.A. Her one year residency at West Haven brought her great joy and pride, as well as yet another of lifes cultural experiences with new friends. The family is most appreciative of the respect and care provided by the staff on the 5th floor at Grace Hospital.
