Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY ROSE BROCKI It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Rose Brocki on August 5, 2003. Rose is survived by her devoted husband Ed, loving son Edward (Kim, Milton), her brother Ed Sawchuk (Suzanne, Deep River), cousin Edward Piasta (Edmonton) and many nieces, nephews and friends. Rose was predeceased by her mother Mary and father Anthony. Rose was born in Winnipeg, and raised on Winterton Avenue in East Kildonan. She attended Polson Elementary, Monroe Junior High and East Kildonan Collegiate Institute. In high school she played violin, was an avid speed skater, figure skater and participated in basketball. She attended the University of Manitoba and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in home economics. She continued her education by interning in Dietetics at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. After completing her internship, she returned to Winnipeg to work in the Dietetics Department at Misericordia Hospital. Her interest then moved toward teaching and she began teaching home economics, first at Monroe Junior High School and then Miles Macdonell Collegiate. After a brief period teaching at Fischer Park High School in Ottawa, she returned to Winnipeg to resume teaching at Miles Macdonell. She then transferred to River East Collegiate, from where she retired in 1988. Throughout her life, Rose has been active in many voluntary and philanthropic organizations. She was also involved with the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority both during her time in university and later on, many years after graduation. She was a member of the Alpha Omega Alumnae Sorority, including holding the position of president. She was a member of OBNOVA at the university. Rose was a member of the Seven Oaks Hospital Foundation Board for many years. She held various positions at the Holy Family Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary including treasurer, vice president and president. She was later appointed to the Nursing Homes Advisory Board. She was also a strong supporter of the Concordia Hospital and its Foundation. She also volunteered her time at Polson Elementary School. Rose was a supporter and council member of the Manitoba Historical Society. In 1996, she was honoured by the Manitoba Home Economics Teachers Association for her service to the profession of home economics education. As well, she was longtime member of the Council of Women of Winnipeg, including serving on the executive. While a member of the Winnipeg Winter Club, Rose actively participated in the curling and bowling programs. She also enjoyed golfing, especially with her friends at the Elmhurst Golf and Country Club. Rose loved to surround herself with beautiful flowers, especially impatiens, petunias and geraniums, which flourished under her green thumb. With her home economics background, she became an extraordinarily fine cook and was the envy of her friends who had the pleasure of tasting the fabulous dishes she prepared. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Ward N2E at Concordia Hospital, Dr. B. Gorski and Dr. P. Harris for their care and compassion. A special thank you to Genevieve Armstrong, Walter Paslawski and Julie Pawluk for their support. In accordance with Roses wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of a memorial service, all friends and relatives are invited to a "gathering of friends and family" to occur at the family residence beginning at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August, 9. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of Roses favourite charities or to the Canadian Cancer Society. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
