JOSEPH HOWARD FORTNEY 1938 - 2003 Peacefully, and surrounded by his loved ones, Joe passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at the Health Sciences Centre. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Eleanor; daughters, Jackie Fortney, Joanne Fortney, Janice and husband John Katolinsky; his three grandchildren, Kyla, Shalsie and John Katolinsky. Also left to mourn him are his brother Don; sister Jennette and brother-in-law Ron Ralston; brother Ed and wife Pat; and sister-in-law Vera Fortney; his brothers-in-law, George Masters and wife Glady, Jim and his wife Heather Masters; his sister-in-law Audrey and her husband Ken Girling, and many nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his father and mother, Joseph and Marie Fortney; his brother Allan; his brother-in-law Jack; his sister-in-law Doris; his niece Shelley; and his nephew Robbie. Joe was born in Winnipeg in 1938 but grew up in the Woodroyd area. He began working at the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1956 as a call boy, and worked in many various positions over the years, and eventually was promoted to the Supervisor, Calling Bureau. He retired from the Customer Service Centre in October 1993. His family, and especially his grandchildren, were his pride and joy. His main concern everyday was that they were taken care of. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer and baseball, and attending their school concerts. Our husband, dad, brother and grandpa also loved old time fiddle music, his casino bus trips, playing Slingo bingo on the computer, and his almost daily walks with Eleanor in Kildonan Park. He enjoyed his trips out to the lake and out to Brandon with Charlie and Robbie Brown to watch Bobby play hockey. In his younger days he was an avid hunter, five pin bowler, curler, and golfer. The family would like to thank the staff in Emergency and M.I.C.U. at the Health Sciences Centre for the care and support given to Joe and all of us during this very difficult time. In Joes memory, donations may be made in his name to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Saturday, August 9 at 11:00 a.m. Services will terminate at the chapel. A private family interment will take place at a later date. WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU! CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
