GEORGE LEON NUYTTEN Passed away in his sleep with his family at his side at home in Peachland, BC, August 5, 2003. His loving wife Laurine; his children, Doug (wife Brenda) and Judith; and his stepchildren, Brent, Sharon, and Don survive him. He will be greatly missed by his nephew Leo; his niece Louise; his grandchildren, Jesse (from Doug), Paul (from Judith), Mitchell, Mary Jane, Jason, Gena (from Sharon), Mellisa, Christina (from Don). George was born in St. Boniface (Winnipeg), MB on November 20, 1919 and he moved to the Kelowna area in 1973. His primary career was as a watchmaker and jeweler in Winnipeg running Time Rite and Westwood Jewelers. He was predeceased by his first wife Esther (from Medicine Hat). He operated OK Valley Shoes in Westbank BC after moving to the Kelowna area. His passion was flying and he was an active private pilot until his later years. He flew his small private aircraft with some close friends on several trips including Cuba and Mexico in the 1960s. He was a volunteer teacher to Air Cadets teaching Flight Training in Winnipeg. He volunteered part-time in the Peachland Chamber of Commerce. He loved to travel, was always very active working on his lakeside property in Peachland until four months ago when a back injury forced him indoors. Nothing stood in his way on the property; he personally built the large dock, two outbuildings, and many stone walls using natural rock from the property. An informal gathering will be held at his home (5174 Robinson Place, Peachland, ph: 250-767-3171) the day before the funeral from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday August 11. All family and friends are invited. The Memorial Service will be held at Peachland United Church, 4th Street at 11:00 a.m. on August 12. The service will be followed by a reception next door. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. We sincerely wish to thank the warm and caring staff of the Community Care Team, the Palliative Response Team, and of 3 South at the K.G.H. all who eased our journey.
