NEIL MAURICE BOUGHTON July 21, 1929 - August 6, 2003 It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden but peaceful passing of Neil Boughton, with family and friends by his side, at the Grace General Hospital on August 6, 2003. Neil was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Edith Boughton; brothers, Wilbur, Walter and Harold; sisters, Evelyn Poyser and husband Lyndsay, Allison and husband Stanley MacFarlane; and niece Fern MacFarlane. Also his parents-in-law, Bud and Karolina Cochrane and brother-in-law Douglas Cochrane. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Helen; sons, Lance (Suzan) and Brent; daughter Debra Lyons; grandchildren, Harley and Ian Boughton, Lee and Laura Boughton, and Jaclynn and Devin Lyons; brother Keith; sisters-in-law Karen, Iris and Grace Boughton, Margaret Kilburn and Eleanor Cochrane; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Neil worked for Manitoba Pool Elevators for 44 years. He began working in the elevator in Arden as an assistant when he was 19 years old. He moved to Birnie, MB to buy grain for six years and then returned to his hometown of Arden for the next eight years as an agent there. In May 1965, Neil was promoted to the position of travelling superintendent in the Melita area. The family stayed there until February 1, 1971 when he was further promoted and his work took the family to Winnipeg. He continued to advance and upon his retirement, was manager of Country Operations for the entire province. Neil was always interested in the people he worked with and their families, knowing the names of all, wives and children included. Sports remained an important part of Neils life. He was involved in baseball, hockey, curling and golf. He actively volunteered, coached and supported all of these interests. Dancing was a special joy in Neils life and, together with Helen, they made many friends in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Neils greatest love was his family and the time he spent with them. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and celebrated all of their accomplishments. Neil enjoyed life, family, friends and neighbours. He was always willing to lend a hand or a tool when needed. He loved to visit with people and was most pleased when he would welcome them in his home, of which he was very proud. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
