MARTIN WITZLEBEN It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and Opa, Martin Witzleben, on August 5, 2003 at the age of 74. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 53 years Agnes; daughter Cindy and husband Richard; son Todd and wife Lisa and grandchildren, Zoe and Erik. Martin was born in Kitzingen, Germany on December 23, 1928, married in 1950, and immigrated to Canada in 1953. His first job in Winnipeg was with Borger Construction building sewer systems. The crew was made up of immigrants and because he spoke both English and German, he was promoted to foreman immediately. In the late 50s and early 60s he worked as a truck driver, shipper/receiver and later as a salesman. Martin and Agnes started their family in 1962 with the arrival of Cindy and Todd (1964). Shortly thereafter Martin established MarWin Distributors Ltd. (1968). MarWin became a family business when Agnes joined him in the 1970s. He remained as president until Todd took over in 1995. Martin continued to work with Agnes and Todd at MarWin until this year. In addition to the long hours he worked at MarWin, he was also a member of CIPH and MCAM. He served as president of the local chapter of CIPH in 1989 and served on the Board of MCAM in 1993. Even with all his business obligations, his number one priority was his family. He showered his wife and children with an unending supply of love and devotion. Martin enjoyed the last number of years wintering in Bucerias, Mexico with Agnes, sister Betty (Sepp) and numerous friends from Canada and the United States. He also made many trips to Germany to visit his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, as well as to Denver to visit his sister-in-law Kate (Neil). Martin was a loving and generous man with a hearty zest for life. He will be missed for his outgoing personality and ability to make everyone he met feel welcome and loved. All were touched by his compassion, cheerfulness and charm. Prayers will be said on Monday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint) with Rev. Fr. Lionel Bouvier officiating. A private family service and interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Donations can be made in Martins memory to the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation. Arrangement entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. 982-7550
