GLADYS AMELIA MacNEILL (nee RICHMOND) February 26, 1942 - August 7, 2003 It is with profound sadness that the MacNeill family announces the passing of Glad. Glad passed away on August 7, 2003 at the age of 61, after a courageous battle with cancer. She will be remembered by her husband Bruce, daughter Karen Patrick (Michael), granddaughter Caleigh and grandson Liam. Glad also leaves to mourn, her mother Clara; brothers, Charles and John (Judy) sisters, Barbara and Helen (Wayne) her nieces and nephews and her many friends. Glad was predeceased by her husband Kenneth (1979) and father Delbert (1989). Glad was born February 26, 1942 in Chatham, ON. She grew up in London, ON where she attended South Collegiate. Glad excelled in basketball, played on the first womens hockey team and won the high school badminton championship. In 1966, Glad moved to London, England where she was employed by Ontario House. In 1973 Glad moved to Winnipeg, where she quickly settled in and became a vibrant part of the community, volunteering her time to teach Sunday school and lending a hand wherever needed. Glad worked for Labatts Brewery for 10 years as the Human Resources Manager. After leaving the company, she began working with her husband Bruce at MacNeill Agencies. During the winter, she curled and during the summer you could find her tending her gardens, enjoying time at her cottage on White Rock Island, at Lake of the Woods, or at the St. Charles Country Club playing golf. Glad served as vice president of the ladies section at St. Charles and was devastated when her illness took away the ability to play the game she so loved. Most of all, Glad loved her family and friends. She cherished the time spent with all the members of her family and was an extremely doting grandmother. Glad lived her life with grace, dignity and an inner strength that we all admired. She left with an impression on every life she touched and those who did know her, walked away enriched because of her. Remember her with smiles, as this is how she wanted to be remembered. "I love you mum." The family would like to thank all of Glads family and friends who supported her through her illness, with meals for family, a shoulder to cry on, or just a gentle ear to listen. She loved you all so very much. We would also like to thank the teams of doctors (Drs. Boult, Toole, Krepart, Daenik, Harlos and Crawford) who always treated her with respect and dignity during her illness. A special thank you is also extended to all the nurses and support staff at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface. Your tenderness and compassion will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 12 at Westminster Church, the corner of Westminster and Maryland, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made in Glads name to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc., 675 McDermot, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or the St. Boniface General Hospital Palliative Care Endowment Fund - St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Room D1 003, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6.
