Date of Passing: Aug 07, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN A. (JACK) McLEAN April 2, 1914 - August 7, 2003 Peacefully in his 89th year Jack McLean left this world and those that loved him dearly. Jack will be remembered by Florence, his wife of 62 years; his children, Kathie and Ken; his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer, Leigh-Ann and Kara; and by the countless of others who came to know him throughout his life. He was predeceased by his parents, John A. and Caroline McLean; his sister Kay Stevens; and his brother Milton McLean. Jack had a long, healthy, happy and fulfilling life. It was only in the last three years and especially the last six months that he was robbed of his strength and mobility. Jack worked in the aircraft industry for over 50 years. During that time he worked for TCA, Field Aviation and Standard Aero before he finally retired for good at the age of 81 from his last job at Goulet Aircraft Supply. But retirement didnt mean inactivity. Jack was constantly doing something. Either collecting cans to raise money for the Manitoba Wildlife Federation or travelling to malls and fairs throughout Winnipeg and Manitoba selling raffle tickets for the CNIB. Jack was a member of Beaver Lodge 139. He truly believed in the Masons and their efforts on behalf of the less fortunate in our society. Jack was an avid golfer and always wished he had taken the game up earlier in life than his late 40s. And Jack was a people person. He made friends wherever he went. Flo and he had many, many good friends throughout Canada and the U.S.A. In the six months he spent at the Poseidon Personal Care Home, there was a constant stream of visitors and well-wishers, a testimony to how he touched so many lives. Jack had definite views on life, politics, and religion and he would gladly debate those topics with anyone. He was an avid reader and was well versed on the issues of the day. Jack was recognized for a number of his achievements although recognition was not something he craved or wanted. He saw when something had to be done and he did it. He and Flo were made lifetime members of the Flying Farmers Association, and he was recognized by numerous groups and agencies. Jack was honest, caring, peaceful, kind, generous, frugal, hardworking, devoted, dedicated, fair and unique man. In respect of his wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation or the CNIB. The family would like to thank all those who came to visit Jack at the care home - he truly cherished each and every visit. They would also like to express their gratitude to the staff at Poseidon Care Home and especially the entire staff on the 3rd floor. Your care and attention over the last days was exceptional and truly wonderful. THOMSON Funeral Chapels - 669 Broadway - 783-7211
