ALICE MITCHELL

ALICE MITCHELL On the evening of July 2, 2003 at the Deer Lodge Centre, Alice passed away. Alice was born May 18, 1916 in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Maria (Asquith) Mitchell and by her brother Albert (1979) and her sister Ann Silman (2002). She is survived by her sister-in-law Grace Mitchell; her nephew Ron Mitchell and nieces, Alice, Barbara, Brenda, Edith, Evelyn and Margaret; as well as many grand nieces, grand nephews and other relatives and friends in Canada, England and the U.S.A. Alice graduated from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp. during the Second World War and for a period after the war. The church and nursing were always very important to Alice and she served both during her work in Pangnirtung, Aklavik and Inuvik in Canadas Arctic regions. She also nursed in Selkirk and Winnipeg at different times in her career. Her last nursing role (21 years) was in the allergy department of the Winnipeg Clinic. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Anglican Church, Portage and Collegiate , Winnipeg, MB with Rev. David Pate officiating. An interment service will take place after the memorial service at St. Clements Cemetery, Selkirk, MB with a luncheon following in the hall of Christ Church (Anglican) Selkirk, MB. The family expresses their thanks to the staff of T-6, Deer Lodge Centre for their support during the time Alice called Room 613 - home. If friends so desire, memorial donations in Alices name may be made to the Deer Lodge Centre or to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
