Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE WILLIAM CORBETT George Corbett passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the Grace General Hospital. He was born on June 10, 1931 at Quibell, ON. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janet, of 50 years; sons, Kim and Patrick (Shelley) grandchildren, Lindsay, Jay, Robyn, Matthew and Scott; sisters, Mae (Charles) Le Cocq and Shirley (Bill) Bailey. George was predeceased by his parents, Rose and John of Thunder Bay; sister Mary Hall; brothers John, Ed and Gordon, all of Thunder Bay. As a young man, he sailed on the Great Lakes out of Thunder Bay. Later he was employed by the Adanac Hotel, Brians Department Store, and then joined the OKeefe Brewing Company in 1955 as a Sales Representative in Thunder Bay. He was responsible for all of the North Western Ontario area. In 1960 he was transferred to Kenora, then to Calgary in 1967, and then to Winnipeg in 1970 as Regional Sales Manager. During his time in Winnipeg, George was promoted to Provincial Sales Manager of Carling OKeefe Breweries until his retirement in 1989. George had a great love for sports and a special love for music. In the early 1950s, he was a member of the Roy Corans Band as their vocalist. After his retirement, George and Janet spent 10 of their winters in Florida where he played golf and continued with his music. During the summer months in Winnipeg, you could always find him at Blumberg Golf Course playing his favourite game and working as a starter. George was a member of Pequonga Lodge No. 414 AF & AM, Kenora, Ontario and a member of Starbuck Masonic Lodge in Winnipeg of which he was Master in 1994. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Maranatha Evangelical Free Church, 910 Sturgeon Rd. Interment and reception will follow at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
