MICHAEL ZUBEK August 17, 1929 - August 9, 2003 Peacefully after a lengthy illness, eight days before his 74th birthday, Mike passed away at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre on August 9, 2003. Michael is survived by his wife Eileen of 46 years, sister Diane (Ed) Raine, their children, Janice and Kelly; nieces, Alberta (Brian) Russell of North Carolina, USA, their children, Kevin, Corey and Kylie; Patricia (Dave) Pomarenski, their children, Amanda, Kurt and Mark; nephew Glenn Zubek of Calgary; sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Lawrence Mak; and very special friends, Karen and Lorne Hiley and their children, Michael and Jonathon. Michael was predeceased by his parents, John and Annie, brother Peter and an infant sister. Mike was born on Aug. 17, 1929 in Arborg, MB where he completed his education and then moved to Winnipeg. Mike was employed by CNR from 1947 to 1965. He then operated the McPhillips Texaco Service Station until 1969, and then worked for the City of Winnipeg, Water Pollution Control Centre until 1983 when he was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease. Mike was an avid 5 pin bowler in his youth and enjoyed all sports via the television set. He loved to travel and enjoyed bus tours throughout Canada and the USA. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Klassen Funeral Chapel, on Saturday, August 16 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Beth Rutherford officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date. Eileen would like to express her thanks to everyone at Kildonan Personal Care Centre, especially Sheri and the 2nd floor staff for their excellent care since September 10, 2001.
