Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD ROSS FORTNEY 1926- 2003 Edward Fortney passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, AB on August 7, 2003 at the age of 77 years. He will be loved and missed by his beloved wife of 51 years, Patricia; his son Douglas (Heather) daughters Denise (Dave McInnis) and Valerie (Robert Majamaa) grandchildren Kristen and Mark; sister Jennette (Ron Ralston) and brother Donald; sisters-in-law Eleanor and Vera; and his many relatives and friends in Calgary, Winnipeg and across the country. Ed was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Marie; brothers Allan and Joe, who passed away on August 5, 2003; sister-in-law Doris; his children, Robbie and Shelley; and his granddaughter, Laura. Ed was born in Winnipeg, MB, on April 17, 1926. The eldest of five children, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a teenager and served overseas during the Second World War. After a whirlwind six-week courtship, he married Patricia Simpson in 1952; the newlyweds moved to England where he was stationed. In 1953, after the first of their five children, Douglas, was born, they settled in Winnipeg for the next 25 years. Ed moved his family to Calgary in 1978, where he lived until his death. Ed held a variety of jobs to support his growing brood, but found his true calling as a realtor, a job that spotlighted his qualities of salesmanship, charm and the gift of gab. He overcame two major personal tragedies, the loss of his son Robbie in 1974 in a snowmobiling accident, and his daughter Shelley, who was killed in 1990 by a drunk driver. Ed will be remembered by those who loved him for his love of the open road, his keen interest in the paranormal and his lifelong care and concern for his family. But most of all, hell be remembered as one of the wittiest, most charming and funny people we ever knew. Dad had the ability to make friends with anyone, and his physical comedy and mischievous sense of humour kept us all laughing over the years. Ed, you will be terribly missed and mourned by your family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAYS, Chapel Of The Bells (2720 Centre Street N.), Calgary on Monday, August 11 at 3:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery.
