GARY WILLIAM SMITH Suddenly, on August 7, 2003, while doing what he loved, Gary William Smith, passed away at the age of 50, on the golf course. At his side were his favourite golf buddies Nan, Richard and Dan. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Michelle Caron; his mother Doreen Sambrook (Howard) brothers, Murray (Donna), Greg (Kim) sister Nancy Lintott (Lloyd) stepdaughters, Brooke Bampton, Robin Andrews (Jim) mother-in-law Terry Kuschak and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Gary was predeceased by his father Clarence and stepfather Rueben Wheeler. Gary loved the outdoors and during his over 20-year career with Manitoba Hydro, particularly enjoyed when his work took him out of the office. Gary had many hobbies such as fishing, reading, music and debating current affairs. He was particularly passionate about golf, and had quite a collection of bent clubs as he pursued the perfect shot. Gary loved to laugh, was a great story-teller and was always there to lend an ear to whomever needed good advice. He loved nothing better than to entertain friends and family, especially at the new family cottage at West Hawk Lake. A celebration of Garys life will held on Monday, August 11, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Garry Memorial Funeral Home located at 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Following the service, the gathering of friends will be held at the same location. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Gary, our 15 years of friendship culminated in the birth of your son, Christopher, on June 8,1991. Although, you didn’t know him, he has grown to be a fine young man who is presently enrolled at the U of M, working on a PhD in psychology. He laughs as freely as you did. He has your dry sense of humor, and he is as compassionate kind and caring as you were…But, he doesn’t golf. You would be proud of him. Thank you for the Greatest Gift humanly possible. Rest Well my Friend, Roxanna. - Posted by: Roxanna Duguay (Friend) on: Jul 19, 2025

  • "Wings of an Angel" by Sarah M. is only one trigger of Gary's memory. Our last encounter in the office was a slo-mo exaggerated walk to each other down the hallway, both of us laughing like loons. Gone too soon, but we'll all meet again in God's house. - Posted by: Tina Fotheringham (co-worker) on: Oct 31, 2013
