"ALEX" ATKINSON Peacefully early Sunday morning, August 10, 2003 at Riverview Health Centre, Alex passed away with his loving wife of 60 years, Ida, by his side. Alex was predeceased by his son Ricki (1955) an infant son (1947) parents, Merton and Winifred; and brother Bud of Brandon. Along with Ida, Alex leaves to mourn his daughter Karen (Gary) grandchildren, Jeremy and Catherine; sister Vera; as well as a large extended family which included many close friends Alex and Ida had made through their life. Alex was born in Brandon, February 2, 1921. He joined the Air Force in 1939, he spent a year in England during Second World War. Alex married his love Ida in 1943. Alex worked for McGavins Bakery for many years. He was a talented man who had many hobbies. Alex painted beautiful oil paintings, he played the organ and embraced the computer in his 70s. He loved the many years he spent with Ida at Lake Manitoba Estates working in their gardens. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 14 at 10:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. Visitation will take place one-half hour prior to the service. Special thanks to the staff at the Grace Hospital 5th floor, WRHA Homecare and Riverview for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alexs memory to the Childrens Wish Foundation of Canada, 350 St. Mary Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2.
