ETHEL HARMATIUK Peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at Kin Place Personal Care Home, Oakbank, Ethel Harmatiuk passed away at the age of 89. She was predeceased by her husband William in 1979; her sons, Walter in infancy, Garry (age 12), Raymond (age 42) granddaughter Shirley Lyons (age 35) seven brothers and one sister. Ethel leaves to cherish her memory, daughter-in-law Helen, son Lloyd, son Lorne (Agnes), daughter Sylvia (Murray Lyons), sister Lillian Steranka, 11 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Mom worked at St. Anthonys Hospital, The Pas, for many years and loved her job as a Nurses Aide immensely. Her pride and joys were her family, plants, crocheting and especially her cooking - pies, pyrogies and soups always filled her freezer. She crocheted lovely, colourful afghans for her family as well as church bazaars to be auctioned or sold. She belonged to the Catholic Womens League while in The Pas, later to the Holy Redeemer Parish, Winnipeg, where she made new friends and joined the church choir. Her faith in God carried her through many challenges and sorrows. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 13 at the Wereschuk Funeral Chapel, Winnipeg. On Friday, August 15, prayers were held by the Catholic Womens League members at the Hemauer Funeral Home, The Pas. A private family interment took place on Saturday at the Lakeside Cemetery in The Pas. Our family wishes to thank the staff of both Park Manor, Winnipeg and Kin Place Personal Care Homes for the special care Mom received in her last years.
