DOUGLAS SNELL December 23, 1928 - August 9, 2003 Unexpectedly, with his favourite pal Dexter close by, it is with great sadness and sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather. Doug will be deeply missed by his wife Toni; son Doug (Charlene) daughters, Laurie (Jerry) and Jackie (Jack) cherished grandchildren, Jennifer, Jerry, Matthew and Hailey; pal Dexter; brother Fred ( Jean) and numerous extended family members and friends. Doug was predeceased by his parents, John and Helen; brothers, Lorne, James, Robert; and sisters, Margaret, Alice, Beatrice, Dorothy and Mary. Dougs greatest joy was being surrounded by his family, planning special family gatherings and working around the house and yard. His quiet and commanding presence was always comforting and supportive. Enlisting in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1951, he served a dedicated and prestigious 33 years, which included a year in the Korean War (53-54) and a tour with the United Nations in Egypt (1978). Following his retirement as Chief Warrant Office in 1983, Doug worked at the Shilo Country Club where he meticulously cared for the Golf Course and Curling Club. In 1992 they moved to the "cabin" which he built with his family in Matlock, MB and enjoyed the winter months in Florida. Dougs greatest joy was being surrounded by his family and planning special times with them. He leaves his family with countless cherished memories, life lessons and to remember what really matters - FAMILY. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 14 at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. Flowers are graciously declined. Donations would be appreciated to St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation-MRI Research; 409 Tache Ave., Room D1003, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6 in memory of Douglas Snell, where he can continue to give to others.
