JOHN PATRICK WORTH John Patrick Worth passed away in Winnipeg, MB on August 9, 2003. Born in 1924 Pat spent his youth in Abbey, SK. He was predeceased by his wife Kenna, of 56 years, in 2001; his parents, Fred and Ethel Worth; brothers, Fred (sister-in-law Helen) Doug and Kenneth. John leaves to remember him, four children, Tim (Jean), Kenna Shipp (Mike), Deborah Ryckman (Grant), Rick (Donna Mastrangelo) Marlene Worth; and 10 grandchildren. Pats passing will be also sadly remembered through the extended families of sister-in-law Phyllis Worth, Norma and Jack Ross, Doris and Lloyd Beattie, Helen and Norman McGie, Virginia and Bill Markle and the numerous extensions of the "Stirling" family of which he was so proud to be a member of. Following training for a position as aircrew in the Second World War, Pat entered the Air Force in 1950 as a Radar Technician. He continued to serve in the Air Force until 1966 when he accepted an offer from the National Research Council and moved his family to Churchill. There he was employed as Range Safety Officer and ultimately Chief of Operations responsible for the scheduling of rockets on behalf of Canadian experimenters and those sponsored by NASA and other agencies. In 1976 he was moved to the headquarters of the Space Facilities Branch (NRC) at Ottawa. In 1983 both Pat and Kenna retired to a more settled life in Gimli. In retirement Kenna and Pat enjoyed the company of their four legged companions most recently Missie and Tae and regular visits by their children and grandchildren to their lakeside home. In 1978 Pat attained his private pilots license, which enabled him to enjoy his love of the air. Pat was active in the Royal Canadian Legion and in the Gimli Air Cadets. He will be fondly remembered by numerous friends from the "White House", the Gimli area and across Canada. The family wishes to thank all the staff of the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre, specifically Dr. Fewer and Dr. Gray for the care given to their father. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 15 at 11:30 a.m., at the Gimli Royal Canadian Legion, 146 - 6th St., South Beach, Gimli. Pat was a member there for many years. Interment of his ashes will take place in Abbey at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined; donations can be made to Gimli Air Cadets, "No. 182 - G.M.
